Description
Known as brown rice tea, Genmaicha has been made and consumed in Japan from as far back as the 15th century. Roasted and sometimes popped rice was added to green tea as a filler to reduce the cost and make it more accessible to the larger population.
Our Japanese Genmaicha tea is made from select green tea leaves that are dried and processed using traditional techniques and then mixed with toasted brown rice, some of which has popped during the toasting process, to make a tea mix that's as good as the original drunk in the 15th century.
The sugar and starch from the brown rice gives the tea to have a warm, full and nutty flavour. Genmaicha has a light-yellow hue with a mild flavour and combines the fresh grassy flavour of green tea with the aroma and flavour of the roasted rice.
